The regulations will apply to ro-ro passenger ships constructed on or after January 1, 2026. For passenger ships with vehicle, special category, or ro-ro spaces built before this date, compliance is required no later than the first survey after January 1, 2028. The protected area in question includes the entire weather deck designated for vehicle carriage. These requirements pertain to fixed water-based fire-extinguishing systems that cover the vehicle deck and surrounding areas, including superstructure boundaries within 8.0 meters horizontally from the designated vehicle storage area or the nearest vertical boundaries, whichever is shorter. The total capacity of all fixed monitors must be at least 2.0 liters per minute per square meter of the protected area. Additionally, no single monitor should have an output of less than 1,250 liters per minute. It is crucial to ensure uniform water distribution across the protected area.
